Granny’s Cinnamon Apples

These apples are a family tradition at our house every Thanksgiving and Christmas.  You can even add red hot cinnamon candies to make the apples red for the holidays.  To use them for a tea dessert, cut the apples into smaller pieces and serve in tiny glass dishes with a small spoon.

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 qt. peeled apples (4 large apples or 6-8 medium)
  • 1 lemon sliced
  • 2 t. cinnamon

Combine sugar and water and bring to a boil.  Add apples, cover and cook slowly until syrup boils; continue cooking gently pressing the apples down occasionally with a spoon until they are tender and transparent looking (about 30 minutes.)  Slice lemon very thin and add to hot syrup along with the spices.  Serve in their own syrup cold or hot.
