Taking Time For Tea

Remember when life was slower-paced and you had time to sit and chat leisurely with your friends and family?

An Outside View of Our Tea Parlor

The idea of a tea room came to me in the summer of 2002. I was tired of rushing through my own life and thought dreamily of creating a sanctuary where the realities of every day life would just drift away. I envisioned myself inhaling the soothing scents of tea and scones while in deep discussion with my dearest friends.

I was yearning for a place of refuge. One summer day, while having tea with my mother, the idea came to me suddenly. I knew that I couldn’t possibly be the only person in need of respite and relief from the hectic pace of our contemporary lives.

An Afternoon to Remember was born that day. I wanted to create a tea room near my home in the foothills of Northern California. And, I wanted to offer fabulous teas to send to people who lived too far away to step into my parlor.

The tea room was the perfect idea. It’s not a restaurant, but a sanctuary, a place of comfort and ease. It is a place where you feel pampered and special, where you can share your deepest feelings with your best friend. And not worry about being interrupted.

Time stands still in a tea room, it is not a rushed event. You leisurely sit and talk. The point of going to a tea room is to relax and enjoy the moment of friendship. The rituals that surround making fine tea and the delicious foods that accompany it, support this atmosphere of calm relaxation.
